LEADERSHIP ‘MATTERS’

The recent IPL was more than just an entertainment package. A thrilling final which ensued between deccan and Bangalore, both the teams having formidable and respected captains in Kumble and Gilchrist , or maybe the super over between rajasthan and kolkata proved a point or two to a certain Mr. John Buchanan according to whom captains aren’t that significant in the game and a set of four captains led by a unconvincing kiwi wicketkeeper would bring successs to his team. Once again, the importance of leadership was shown by fate (and people) to those who discard it! Its not only in cricket but in any spectrum of life u cant expect a group of people, however likeminded or talented they may be to excel and bring success to themselves unless they have a boss…..a GOOD boss (or some very good luck!). No headless body can achieve what a body with a head can achieve.
All this baad-baad I did now was a short note stressing how important I think is leadership. Getting on the lighter side of things, I would like to classify in this blog of mine the types of leaders - good bad ugly however they are - to entertain us all and also provide insight to the types of leadership. Though the types may be classified under a cricketer’s name they do not stand for cricket, and the cricketer is just some sort of a symbolic representation used by me.

TYPE A (Michael Vaughan type)
The cool, collected, intelligent men of steel. Are pretty good planners but don’t mind backing their instincts as well. The best part about these guys is that they never panic. Their cool indifference to tough situations sometimes can be termed as boring yet winning in layman’s terms. This very indifference may a few times prove to be a flaw as being unaffected at all times leads to even tougher spots which eventually lead to loss! Usually intimidating guys gaining significant amount of respect from teammates/employees/colleagues (whatever)…not the most loved, never unduly hated, and certainly respected very much.

TYPE B (Rahul Dravid type)
The type B are always without a plan B!!! i.e. to say they lose it if things don’t go according to plan. Not usually good leaders and certainly the most boring of the lot. These meticulous planners panic in tough spots and can be seen with their hands on their heads more often than other types. Though it would be worthy to mention that if things do go according to plan, they more often than not end up on top. They are normally very good team-persons as well. They are loved and respected as long as their plan works, at other times they are ridiculed.
TYPE C (sorry, I can’t think of a cricketer for this type)
The communists. The most loved leaders who usually are leaders for namesake. In a bid to keep everyone happy they end up losing the plot terribly. Socializers who always have more friends than enemies. Less intimidating than the other kinds, they are NOT necessarily bad leaders, and may come good if the team they have is a very co-operative and talented one. Its not as if they never take decisions but the decision taken is more towards ‘equality’ and ‘goodwill’ rather than the success!

TYPE D (Sourav Ganguly/ Shane Warne type)
The flamboyant hotshots. These guys love to lead and enjoy every moment guiltlessly of being in charge of things. They love to fight tough situations and one cant help thinking whether they want a problem so that they can go through the challenge of surviving it. These kind are inspirational leaders who are admired with awe by peole who understand their importance. Imaginative and and at their genius best they are normally very successful. Bending the rules if not breaking them, is a part of their thinking. They also are satirically humorous but also tend to lose their temper easily than the other types. Almost always very good planners and even better as instinctive animals! They are the most easiest to get entrapped in controversies and almost seem to enjoy being there! Very easily loved, equally easily hated…you love them or hate them, u just cant ignore them!!!

P.S. - of course there are others like Mr. McCullum who comes under no type or the great MS dhoni who can be said to be a hybrid of type A and D. but what types i hav explained is according to me the dominant traits for any leader(good or bad!). so what type r u?(if u are one!)

the greatest injustice....???

I was recently welcomed to a strange world where evry person wants equality but does not strive for it, wants oppurtunity but does not rightfully grab it, and wants justice under the name of injustive. Welcome to 'zanduland'. For people who do not know me,allow me to tell u dat the word 'zandu' will be frequently occuring in my furthur posts too. It stands as a dynamic swear word of frustration which can be used without hurting any minds since it has no meaning in particular. Coming back to my topic, it was a shock in my personal life when i was ignored for a certain award and the people preferred over me werent much better than me. avoidng personal comments to anyone, let us proceed to the selectors who wanted to provide 'equal oppurtunity' and didnt mind neglecting me coz i was 'already in many waters(events)'. i guess i shud be the fool here to expect a bunch of clowns to follow the principle of 'let the best be the best'. such incidents were mainly due to stupid reasons like - 'its his/her last time, he is so bichara etc.' - the typical emotional fool's mistakes!
let us put aside my personal life as it is certainly not of any concern to any of the readers expect me myself. heading into the territories of general life, we cannot count on our fingers how many times has talent, skill and integrity been wasted under the name of fairness. fairness which by no means is fair. imagine a young boy of age 8 who does sumthing good, really good and shows it proudly to his teacher who ignores it before sumthing dat is not so good,bt preffered as its done by a 'bichara' student...who becomes the bichara in this case, the non-capable or the capable?!? wnt this incident affect the life of this talented young guy,who may think dat inability is the road to success! think my friends. i wnt go as far as saying dat emotions shud be discarded or dat the not-so-capable shud be ignored, but keeping in mind dat the emotions of the capable shud be kept intact in doing so,and justice shud be achieved...it wud be impratical to think the whole world wud abide by wat i expressed, but for those who have read this blog and captured my wave-length,see to it dat u r not just a good and kind human being but a fair human being as well! talk to u in my my next post!
